Nature's Creation Expanded Shale

Nature's Creation Expanded Shale is a natural soil amendment (Haydite) that is mined, crushed, and kiln fired to create 1/8 - 1/4 inch particles of porous inert material that:

• Opens and aerates clay soils fast
• Loosens and aerates compacted soils
• Improves drainage
• Assists in retaining moisture

The results are healthier, more extensive  root systems in lawns, beds, gardens, and container grown plants.

Nature's Creation Expanded Shale is highly porous and is able to maintain 30% airspace while absorbing over 35% of its weight in moisture, which is slowly released to the surrounding environment.

Application:

New sod: Spread 1/4 inch layer before laying sod and water thoroughly to maximize water retention.

Potting and container growing: Mix 1 part shale to 5 parts of potting mix and water thoroughly.

Annuals, perennials, roses: Spread 1 inch layer over area to be planted and work into the soil 4 - 8 inches deep. Water thoroughly.

Vegetable gardens: Spread 40 lbs./1,000 sq. ft., work into soil, and water thoroughly.

Planting trees and shrubs: Make a mix of 10% shale and 90% native soil to backfill hole.  Plant high where root flare is even or above ground level.
