Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous earth is derived from the fossilized remains of tiny, ancient aquatic life composed mainly of silicon dioxide, a nontoxic substance. Dry diatomaceous earth kills crawling insects through the action of dessication.

Although diatomaceous earth is nontoxic, care should be given to avoid inhalation as any substance with silica can harm lung tissue in people and animals.
